Welcome to our brand new website, another tool which brings our Federation right up to date. Always moving forward is our tagline and philosophy; developing the sport, keeping up with modern trends and ensuring our sport remains relevant are our goals.
With this new website, it is our intention to bring you that little bit extra. It is a chance not just to meet athletes and track their progress at competitions, but this is also a chance to acquaint yourself with Planet Canoe, the sporting lifestyle of Canoeing. Throughout the year, articles on expeditions, on events around the world, on trips with the family, news from paddlers in every corner of the globe and much more will appear on this new site. There will be some extra treats along the way too.
Also coming up in 2010 is the continuation of our broadcasting project. Having concentrated on broadcasting our sport worldwide, 2009 was a milestone year for the ICF. Our own highlights shows from all six 2009 World Cups (three in Canoe Sprint, three in Canoe Slalom) were shown in 30 countries around the world. The Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom World Championships were shown to around 120 million people. This year, we will build on this success and bring the sport to more fans across the globe.
Ours is a multi-discipline sport and the ICF must reflect that. It is important for us to engage with each sport and represent it on the world’s sporting stage with professionalism. We hope you enjoy what is coming up in 2010 and that you enjoy our new website. Remember that we have links to the various events, committees and friends of Canoeing that could provide you with any more specific or specialised information you may need. If you can’t find what you’re looking for then please get in touch.
Yours in sport,
José Perurena López
