PCKF Names Mohammad Durrani "2012 National Athlete of the Year"
The Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) has awarded its “2012 National Athlete of the Year Award“ to Mohammad Abubakar Durrani of Pakistan Customs Quetta.
The Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation Athlete of the Year Award is given annually to the male and female canoe sprint athlete with the best performance results in the canoe and kayak Olympic sports.
The criteria to win this award is based on the athlete obtaining the highest score or total points achieved at International, National and Provincial level at Canoeing Championships.
The PCKF Award was first introduced in 2007 for men and in 2010 for women. Mohammad Abubakar Durrani is the youngest athlete to have won the award and is is the only player to have won the award in Pakistan six consecutive times.
The president of Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation Malik Abdul Rahim Baabai and Secretary General Hayatullah Khan Durrani thanked the International Canoe Federation (ICF) and the Asian Canoe confederation (ACC) for considering the Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation as a National Federation of the ICF and for supporting the country’s continuous promotion and development of canoe and kayak and other paddle sports in Pakistan.
On the occasion of the Awards, the PCKF President also announced the top ten male and female Canoeing players of the country, Farhanullah Khan Kakar, Mohammad Shoaib Khilji, Mohammad Yousaf Nasibullah Saddozai and Mohammad Umar Durrani (most Junior). Miss Fathima, Miss Shazia and Miss Zarmina Khilji were named among the top ten canoe kayak paddlers in Pakistan.
