He began racing in canoe competitions in 2012
REASON FOR TAKING UP THE SPORT
He was previously involved in powerlifting, cycling and shooting. In 2012 he was invited to attend a talent identification day for Para canoe in Nottingham, England. "I didn't want to give up on sport. The cycling and powerlifting work quite well with Para canoe - the gym work, the power and strength, and then you have the endurance and speed work on the bike."

In 2009 he was taken to hospital for what he believed to be a prolapse of the neck but doctors diagnosed a rare motor neurone condition that affects the brain and the strength in his arm and legs. This meant he could no longer compete as a powerlifter or handcyclist.
