Germany’s Ricarda Funk will start red-hot favourite for this month’s ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships after recording a fourth consecutive World Cup K1 win in Spain on Sunday.

Funk has been in the form of her career since the second World Cup of the season, and added another title in La Seu d’Urgell in a time of 96.82.

“I can’t believe it, I can’t describe it,” Funk said.

“I can’t believe that I have won another World Cup. I love the sport so much, and I just try to have fun.

“Every single competition starts at zero, and you have to fight every single run. It doesn’t matter the World Cups. I will try and focus new (for the World Championships) and start again.”

Australia’s Jessica Fox picked up her second silver medal of the weekend in a time of 97.63, with hometown favourite Maialen Chourraut finishing third.

In the men’s C1 Slovenia’s Benjamin Savsek broke through for his fist win of the season, his time of 94.12 squeezing him home ahead of Slovakia’s Alexander Slafkovsky in 94.25, with Frenchman Martin Thomas third in 94.56.

“I know I’m good, I know I’m quite fast, I just need to paddle with my head and not do big mistakes,” Savsek said.

“It was really hard, I was trying to push as much as possible and I’m really happy that I didn’t touch the gates.”

The final day results meant Funk easily won the women’s K1 World Cup title for 2017, while fellow German Sideris Tasiadis, who finished fourth and missed the podium for the first time in 2017 on Sunday, won the men’s C1 title.

The athletes will now head to Pau in France to prepare for the 2017 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships on the final weekend of September.
