The International Canoe Federation will run two online canoe freestyle judge seminars to train new participants ahead of a return to the competition season.

The three-day seminars will run over the next two weeks, and will provide an opportunity for potential judges to learn how to score a range of freestyle moves and how to understand the appendices.

“This is a very difficult time for everyone around the world, including our canoe freestyle community who would normally be preparing for a busy competition season,” Alex Conte, canoe freestyle judge management coordinator, said.

“These online seminars not only allows us to remain engaged with our community, but it also provides a great opportunity to introduce new judges to our programmes. Participants will have access to grade A judges over the three days, so they will be learning from the best.”

At the end of the seminars participants will undergo two assessments, an online multiple-choice exam and a practical exam using video scoring. Full attendance of the online sessions will be essential before taking the exams.

The results of the exams will determine what grade the participants will be awarded, which will denote what level of ICF competition they will be able to judge.

Mr Conte said the seminar is aimed at potential judges who already have some knowledge of the different freestyle moves, including squirt.

The first seminar will run from April 16-18, and the second session from April 23-25. Each seminar is limited to eight participants.

More information about the seminars can be found here, and the application forms are here. The closing date for each seminar is three days before the lessons begin.
