20-year-old Ottilie Robinson-Shaw and 19-year-old Mason Hargrove stole the show on the final day of the ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup in Columbus, Georgia, on Wednesday.

Great Britain’s Robinson-Shaw underlined her class with a clean sweep of the gold medals on offer, while American teenager Hargrove announced his arrival on the world stage by snatching the men’s kayak surface gold over a world-class field which included multiple world champion, Dane Jackson.

Jackson did take the title in the men’s canoe decked final, to add to the bronze he won in the kayak. In other results, American Seth Chapelle won the canoe surface final, fellow American Makinley Kate Hargrove won the women’s junior kayak surface, and Japanese teenager Nanase Okazaki won the men’s junior kayak gold.

Robinson-Shaw took her first gold medal on Wednesday in the women’s canoe decked final, finishing more than 450 points ahead of the next best score. She then responded to the challenge laid down by Japanese former world champion, Hitomi Takaku, to win the kayak final.

Takaku led after the first round with a score of 450, but Robinson-Shaw responded with a ride amassing 503.33 points to move to the top of the leaderboard.

In the men’s final Hargrove sat in third position after the first round, but then leap-frogged to first place with a score of 1393.33 with his second ride. His final ride was almost as good, posting 1353.33.

The ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup final will begin at the same location on Friday.
