Hungarian sprint canoe coach and Olympic silver medallist Katalin Rozsnyoi has been recognized with a prestigious IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievements Award at the Olympism in Action Forum in Buenos Aires.

Rozsnyoi won a silver medal in the K2 500 at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, and has since devoted herself to coaching many of Hungary’s very best canoe sprint paddlers.

She was one of 98 nominations from 38 countries for the coaching award, with just one female and one male selected for the award.

Rozsnyoi was recogined ‘for her significant contribution to Hungary’s success at the Olympic Games and the outstanding number of medals won by her athletes in canoeing’. Her athletes have won 11 Olympic medals, 84 at World Championships, and 70 medals at European Championships.

The awards dinner was held at the Olympism in Action forum ahead of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, which start in Buenos Aires this weekend.

The IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards, given every year to one female and one male coach, is an initiative of the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission to raise awareness about the athletes’ entourage and recognise the important role coaches play in supporting athletes on the road to their sporting dreams.
