Following the outstanding success of the International Canoe Federation’s first ever talent identification camp for paracanoe athletes, a second camp has been announced to be run in conjunction with this year’s ICF Paracanoe World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

The camp will run August 12-25, and will include training and competition. Athletes in the women’s VL2 category are especially encouraged to apply, along with any other athletes in Paralympic categories who are in the development stage.

The ICF Paracanoe program, together with the generous support of the IPC AGITOS Foundation, will cover all travel costs for participants.

On-site expenses for accommodation, meals and local airport transfers will be covered by the Hungarian Canoe Federation through the 2019 Worlds Development Fund.

“There is always a sense of nervousness whenever you start something new, but our first ever paracanoe talent camp in Budapest was such an outstanding success, that we had no hesitation in scheduling another,” ICF paracanoe committee chairman, John Edwards, said.

“To be able to run this second camp in conjunction with this year’s ICF Paracanoe World Championships will be a great boost for the sport.

“The generous support of the IPC AGITOS Foundation will enable us to bring in more athletes, and to offer the very best facilities, coaching and competition experience.”

While the camp will cater for athletes across all categories, particular focus will be given to athletes interested in the va’a discipline. Three va’a events have been introduced for next year’s Paralympics in Tokyo.

Interested participants and federations can find more information about the second camp here.
