The International Canoe Federation Marathon Committee has held its annual spring meeting of the 2020 season in Madrid, a welcome return to the country who last held a world championship in 2003.

The 2002 World Championships were held in Zamora, Spain, which was organised in record time after the original site had to be discarded, and then the following year in Valladolid.

The meeting, which took place on February  21st , 22nd , and 23rd, was attended by all members Ruud Heijselaar (chairman), Stefan Gustafson, Jose Sousa, Begoña Rodríguez, Tim Cornish, and Martin Marinov, the ICF’s technical manager.

Also present at the meeting were ICF President, Jose Perurena, and vice-president, Thomas Konietzko.

The most outstanding topics on the agenda were;

-          Modification and readjustment of regulations,

-          Evaluation of the events for 2019

-          2020 Events: Cups, World Championships, Masters World Championships, Paracanoe Championships

-          Manual of the Technical Deliverables

-          Discussions about distances and courses

-          Presentation of our sport

-          World series

-          International Referees, seminars, courses and selection for competitions

-          World games 2021 Alabama (USA)

-          Masters World Games 2021 Kansai (JPN),

-          Applications for 2024 Championships and Cups for 2022 and 2024
