For the seventh year in a row Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, has hosted a charity paddling
event called ‘24 hours paddling for a good cause’. Participants of the event paddled on a 5,5
kilometres long circular course though the city centre.

The Canoe Federation of Slovenia, kayak canoe club Ljubljana and charity foundation House of
Sun co-organised the event, with each year the money from the participation fees, donations and sponsorship going to selected individuals, groups or institutions in need or with disabilities.

Each year one of the sponsors donates an extra Euro for each paddled kilometre.T

This year the money will go to Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth, which runs the
summer resort for children in need in Pacug on the Slovenian coast. They will finance the
summer holidays for children whose parents cannot afford to send their children for a short
holiday break on the seaside.

The idea of the 24 hours paddling event is simple. It starts on Friday afternoon and ends on
Saturday afternoon and the participants can start their paddling at any time, even in the middle
of the night. They can paddle one lap or as many as they can in the period of the 24 hours.

Foreign ambassadors and diplomats to Slovenia once again attended the event and paddled a lap in dragon boats together with members of the Slovenian national canoe slalom team.

More than 200 participants took part in this year’s event, the majority paddling one lap. Altogether 726 laps were completed, a total of 3993 kilometres. Eva Ferjan was the most persistent, covering 30 laps or 165 kilometers in 24 hours. Bojan Lenart followed with 27 laps (148.5 km), Alen Mugerli, Matevž Manfreda and Santiago Leban Parada collected 19 laps each (104.5 km). More than ten laps were covered by 27 participants this year.
