Four-time Olympian and current International Canoe Federation development manager Sebastian Cuattrin has added his signature to a wall of Olympic athletes at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Cuattrin, who competed as a canoe sprint athlete for Brazil at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics, joined IOC President Thomas Bach at the signature ceremony.

“For me was a great honour to sign my name at the IOC Olympians Athletes wall, where the signatures are eternized of the best Olympic athletes worldwide,” Cuattrin said.

Cuattrin made his Olympic debut as an 18-year-old in the K1 500 and K1 1000 metres in Barcelona in 1992. Four years later he made the K1 1000 final in Atlanta, finishing eighth. He competed in the K2 500 and 1000 metres in Sydney, and then completed his Olympic career with three events in Athens – the K1 1000 and 500, and the K2 500.

He also won 11 medals at Pan American Games, including a gold as a member of the men’s K4 in Rio in 2007. He won six silver medals and four bronze medals.

Cuattrin is the current development manager at the International Canoe Federation, where he is part of a team with responsibility for the growth of canoe sports around the world.

“Having Sebastian as our sport development manager has provided us with first-hand knowledge of some of the challenges facing athletes every day,” ICF vice-president Cecilia Farias said.

“It also underlines the great value athletes can offer once they have finished their sporting careers. Finding post-Olympic pathways for competitors is a challenge facing every sport, so we are very pleased to have been able to tap into the knowledge and experience of our very own four-time Olympian.”
