Following the tremendous success of an online stand up paddling seminar for technical officials, a second hands-on seminar will be held in Hungary on the eve of next month’s ICF Stand Up Paddling World Championships at Lake Balatonfured.

More than 40 participants from more than 20 countries took part in the online theory seminar, with participants from a range of backgrounds. National federation presidents, referees and judges, athletes and many more took the opportunity to learn new skills or to expand their knowledge base.

The second part of the seminar will focus on practical skills and will be held over two days from September 7-8. All participants in the course will be assigned a role during the ICF world championships from September 9-12.

ICF SUP coordinator Hoichan Kwon said the seminars underline the importance of providing top-level officials for ICF events by preparing new judges for stand up paddling competitions.

“We are already blessed to have some of the best SUP officials in the sport available to officiate at our events, but we are always on the lookout for more,” he said.

“No experience is necessary to become involved in this two-part seminar. And by the time our world championships begin, we will have a new group of trained officials ready to help deliver another first-class event.

“The feedback from our online seminar was very positive, and I know all participants have been very much looking forward to this hands-on section of the programme.”
