The 12th edition of The World Games will be held from August 7 to 17 in 2025, with 35 sports now confirmed in the line-up. Dragon boat was an invitational sport at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei.
Dragon boat racing is a popular pastime throughout China, guaranteeing a big crowd for the competition during the 2025 World Games.
Double pom cheerleading, duathlon and flag football are among the other sports to be confirmed as part of the 2025 program. IWGA sports director Sebastian Garvens said the new sports will bring extra excitement to this global sporting event.
“The fact that we were able to include new sports and new disciplines in consultation with our member federations (IFs) and our partners in Chengdu shows that The World Games are evolving, and taking into account the trends in the world of sport and our international federations,” he said.
