The 2017 Asian Paracanoe Championships have finished a five-day intensive development project supported by IPC’s AGITOS Foundation.
Eleven Asian nations participated in the five-day project which included classification workshops, coaching workshops and finished with the Asian Paracanoe Championships. The event took place at the Royal Thailand Navy Rowing & Canoeing Centre in Rayong Province, Thailand.
Eleven candidate classifiers from six national federations participated in the classification workshop for medical and technical paracanoe classifiers. New paracanoe nations, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and South Korea were welcomed to the workshops, and Malaysia and Thailand participated in classification education workshops for the first time.
The competition took place in ideal weather conditions on the superb international standard regatta course. Brazil’s KL3 bronze medalist, Caio Ribeiro de Carvalho, was welcomed by the Asian Canoe Confederation (ACC) to compete as an exhibition entry. He is in the midst of a training programme in Japan as part of his Tokyo 2020 preparations.
ACC President, Mr. Shoken Narita, said “the event was a success and will greatly benefit the region’s Paracanoe development as Asia prepares for Tokyo 2020”.
The organizing committee gratefully acknowledges the support of the AGITOS Foundation, the International Canoe Federation, the Asian Canoe Confederation, the Rowing & Canoeing Association of Thailand and the Royal Thailand Navy.
