Paracanoe has made a successful debut at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, with more than 60 athletes from nine national Paralympic committees taking part in the 10-event competition.

Athletes from seven countries won medals, with Uzbekistan leading the charge with five gold medals. Iran won two titles, while India and host nation China also won gold medals. The Chinese team finished with six medals overall.

India’s Prachi Yadav, who competed at the Tokyo Paralympics, was the most successful athlete with a gold and a silver medal.

“For paracanoe’s first Asia Paralympic Games, we have shown a very high level of competition and that we belong in the Asian Paralympic Games,” ICF paracanoe committee chair, John Edwards, said.

“I encourage all competitors and teams to increase the number of paddlers and NPCs participating in paracanoe for the next Games.”
