Impairment Details
In April 2012 she underwent surgery to amputate her right leg below the knee. She made the decision to remove the limb as a result of living in constant pain after injuring her knee 20 years earlier. She competes in a rainbow coloured boat, which she has named 'Douglas' or 'Doug' after US boxer James 'Buster' Douglas and World War II double amputee pilot Douglas Bader. Initially introduced as a favour for a close friend (compete in Murray Marathon). Gained an immediate enjoyment from the freedom of canoeing/kayaking provided as well as met some amazing people.
