Flash Quotes: Canoe Single (C1) Men: FLORENCE (GBR)
RIO DE JANEIRO - Comments from David FLORENCE (GBR) after his first run in the heats of the men's C1 canoe slalom competition at Whitewater Stadium in Deodoro X-Park on Sunday.
David FLORENCE (GBR)
On the windy conditions:
"It was pretty good by the time we got on actually, not a big issue. The gates are blowing a little bit here and there but not significantly enough to be a problem at all. It was very windy when I got down here but it died away and now conditions are good."
On posting the fastest time in the first run in the heats:
"What was important for me was to get through today. I don't necessarily know if that (time) was a marker, I think quite a lot of the guys had some difficulties out there but it's obviously great to win the first round and it should be enough to go through, which is the crucial thing really. First to 14 doesn't really matter but 15th or below - that's not good.
"I remember the first time I went to the Olympics. Any time you're there it feels like this might be the only opportunity of your life to be at an Olympic Games. Having been here before and been fortunate enough to win medals? No, I don't feel any additional pressure to come away with one."
On if becoming a father for the second time has affected his Rio 2016 preparation:
"I've been in Rio most of the time getting lots of sleep, my poor wife is the one who has been doing all the hard work really."
