NOTE:

The Doodle Poll for scheduling classification for RACICE (ICF WORLDS) will be open for two weeks between July 5 and July 19. Access to the polls will be posted on the Paracanoe section of the ICF website. https://www.canoeicf.com/discipline/paracanoe

Medical documentation for athletes seeking classification must be sent by July 19th to [email protected]

Paracanoe races now follow the normal Canoe Sprint time intervals between races. Federations will need to take careful note of the schedule when planning their boat requirements for the event.

ATHLETE CLASSIFICATION

Paracanoe Kayak athletes who require classification are those with one of the following statuses:

  •   REVIEW Status with a Fixed Review Date before the Competition

  •   REVIEW Status or

  •   New Status

ICF has submitted a new classification system to IPC fo rapproval. Due to proposed changes in the Vaa Athlete Classification system for Tokyo 2020, Paracanoe Vaa athletes will only require classification if they are New Status. ICF plans to initiate re-classification according to the new Vaa classification system at the 2017 World Championships as part of preparations for the 2018 competition season. The new classification system will not apply to competitions held in 2017.

    Link to current Master List:

    https://www.canoeicf.com/sites/default/files/classification_master_list_25-06-2016.pdf

If an athlete fails to attend his/her classification slot, he/she will not be classified and will not be permitted to race.

  •   Athletes must be classified separately for Kayak and Va’a.

  •   A Confirmedclass in K1 does NOT give automatic entry in the same class in V1 and

    vice-versa.

    REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR CLASSIFICATION

Athletes attending classification at competitions must send the following Paracanoe forms to [email protected] no later than three weeks before the start of classification for each competition except for item #4 below, which must be provided 30 days before the start of the classification period for each competition.

  1. ICF Paracanoe Athlete Information & Consent

  2. Declaration of Medical Complications & Emergency Measures

  3. Equipment Passport

  4. ICF Paracanoe Athlete Certificate of Diagnosis

This document must be completed in English and signed by a medical doctor. It should also include supporting medical diagnostic documentation. In complex cases additional supporting medical information may be requested.

5. Strapping waiver (Only required when an athlete uses strapping.)

6. PFD (Lifejacket) waiver (Only required when an athlete does NOT use a PFD (Personal Flotation Device)

The forms will be available to download from the ICF Website in the Paracanoe area:

https://www.canoeicf.com/discipline/paracanoe

Any athlete who is entered in an event for which he/she has no classification will not be permitted to race.

Paracanoe athletes may enter more than one event if their classification makes them eligible to do so and the schedule permits. (NOTE: Athletes are not permitted to compete outside their classification category, ie. A KL1 category athlete may not race upinto KL2)

NF’s are required to provide their own boats for their classification. The ICF is unable to provide a boat loan service. It is recommended that Federations who need to borrow boats for the competition or for classification make boat loan arrangements early with boat manufacturers or event organizers.

EQUIPMENT PASSPORT

ALL athletes competing MUST complete and send an equipment passport to [email protected] . If the equipment passports are not completed and sent in, the athlete will not be allowed to race. The equipment passports will be checked during classification and before each race. If the equipment does not match the equipment passports, the athlete will not be allowed to race. If the athlete has sent an equipment passport before but has changed some equipment, a new equipment passport must be sent to [email protected] and the changes must be specified. If the athlete has been given a confirmed status and are changing the equipment, the Chief Classifier will determine if the changes are approved. The equipment passport will be available to download from the Paracanoe section of the ICF website.
