Chinese Canoe Association (CCA) President Tong Lixin has been named as the new Deputy Director of China’s General Administration of Sports.
A statement issued by China’s State Council in Beijing on June 9 announced the appointment of Mr Tong in his new role.
Mr Tong has been President of the CCA since 2022 and led the Chinese canoeing team at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Last year, China enjoyed a successful Olympic Games, winning two sprint golds in the canoe double courtesy of victories for Hao Liu and Bowen Ji in the men’s canoe double 500m and Shixiao Xu and Mengya Sun in the women’s C2 500m.
China also hosted the first-ever International Canoe Federation Hangzhou Super Cup in 2024, bringing together the disciplines of Canoe Sprint, Canoe Slalom, Canoe Marathon and Canoe Polo.
In his career in sports administration, Mr Tong has held a number of high-ranking roles in China.
Mr Tong was previously Vice Chairman of the Chinese Skiing Association and was Director of the Sports Department for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Organising Committee.
