The International Canoe Federation has announced the upcoming release of a new series of short educational video clips focused on basic Canoe Polo techniques.

Recorded during the 2024 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships in Deqing, China, the series will be published progressively throughout 2026, with aims to support the global development of the sport.

Designed as accessible, high-quality learning resources, the videos provide a clear and practical introduction to canoe polo.

They are primarily targeted at beginners, young athletes, and coaches, while also serving as a valuable technical reference for the wider community.

Each clip combines concise instruction with a professional audiovisual approach, reflecting the high-performance environment in which the content was captured.

The series will cover a broad range of topics, including equipment and materials, safe entry and exit from kayaks, and basic paddling and movement techniques.

Additional modules will address ball handling, passing and receiving skills, as well as key elements of gameplay such as goalkeeper-specific techniques.

The series will be available in both English and Spanish.

Led by Mario Perez Lopez, the project reflects the ICF’s ongoing commitment to the development, education, and global growth of canoe polo.

Production was carried out in collaboration with Zomar Studio in China, ensuring both technical accuracy and engaging presentation.

Greg Smale, Chair of the ICF Canoe Polo Committee, highlighted the importance of the initiative.

“We’ve been working towards making basic canoe polo techniques freely accessible worldwide and reaching a much wider audience.”

“We now have specific persons responsible to lead in key areas like coaching, with Mario putting significant thought into how this project should come together,” said Smale.

“In collaboration with Zomar Studio, we’ve created clips that show technique’s, highlight common mistakes and provide strong educational content for beginners, young athletes, and coaches.”

Smale also confirmed that the videos will be free to access and will be posted on the ICF YouTube channel with links from the ICF Facebook page.

“This work has additionally led to the creation of a Level 1 Canoe Polo Coaching Course that the ICF CAP launched in Malaysia last year and can offer as and when required by federations.”

The 25 videos will be released progressively in the coming weeks as the sport builds toward the 2026 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships in Duisburg, scheduled to take place from 15–20 September and expected to be the largest edition of the event to date.

“We hope you will find them interesting and educational and that they help you as an athlete and/or your club to develop your personal paddle skills and Canoe Polo,” said Smale.
