The International Canoe Federation has set the task of holding further Dragon Boat coaching courses in 2024.

Hong Kong was the location of the last coaching course in November which proved to be a huge success.

A total of 63 national coaches, including 48 men and 15 women, from Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Japan, China and Britain participated in the three-day ICF Level 2 Dragon Boat course.

Csaba Szanto, an ICF-certified Level 3 coach, conducted the course along with Dr. Wai-Hung Luk, Chair of the ICF Dragon Boat Commission.

In addition to pre-course study and project, the course comprised of nine hours of theory, a six-hour practical part and a three-hour examination.

During the three days in Hong Kong, coaches learnt about the latest Dragon Boat methods of training and the rules of the discipline.

The practical part saw participants test their Dragon Boat technique on the beach before getting out on the water.

All 63 coaches that took part in the course successfully passed the examination.

“The course in Hong Kong was a great success with 63 individuals qualifying as ICF Level 2 coaches at the end of the weekend,” said Dr. Luk.

“It was brilliant to see coaches from six different National Federations learn so much over the three days that they can take back to their countries.

“This is vitally important to the development of coaching skills and I am aiming to take the course to more countries in 2024.”
