The International Canoe Federation is wishing Ingmar De Vos a successful tenure as President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) following his election. 

De Vos was unanimously elected as the new President of the umbrella body during the 48th ASOIF General Assembly on April 9 in Birmingham, England. 

The Belgian official, who has been President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) since 2015, will begin his four-year term as ASOIF President on January 1, 2025. 

As well as serving as the leader of the FEI, De Vos has been a member of the ASOIF Council since 2019 and been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2017. 

De Vos is also a member of the IOC Commissions in Legal Affairs and Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and is the ASOIF representative on the World Anti-Doping Agency Executive Committee. 

“I would like to congratulate Mr De Vos on his election today and wish him every success in his new role as ASOIF President,” said ICF President Thomas Konietzko. 

“I am fully confident that Mr De Vos will continue the excellent work of outgoing President Francesco Ricci Bitti by ensuring strong representation from all Summer Olympic International Federations. 

“During his tenure as ASOIF President, I hope to work closely with Mr De Vos in our joint pursuit to strengthen the Olympic Movement.” 

De Vos will replace Francesco Ricci Bitti whose tenure as ASOIF President will finish on December 31. 

Mr Ricci Bitti first assumed the role in 2012 before being re-elected in 2016 and 2020. 

The Italian official is the Honorary Life President of the International Tennis Federation having led the governing body between 1999 and 2015. 

He is also a member of the IOC’s Coordination Commissions for Paris 2024 and LA28. 

“It has been a great pleasure to engage with Mr Ricci Bitti during his time as ASOIF President,” added Mr Konietzko. 

“Under his leadership over the past 12 years, the ASOIF has gone from strength to strength, putting the organisation in a strong position for Mr De Vos to work from."
