Organisers of the seventh Malabar River Festival, Asia’s biggest kayak festival, say they are thrilled with the turnout for the southern India event and are already planning an even bigger competition next year.

The international race series in Kozhkode, Kerala, this year also raced under the banner of the 2019 Open International Wildwater Kayak and Slalom competition. Athletes competed for US$15,000 in prizemoney.

The festival, supported by the International Canoe Federstion and run by the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, held races in slalom, boater x and wildwater. Athletes from nine countries competed in this year’s event.

Previous winners have included ICF freestyle world champion, Dane Jackson, New Zealand Olympian, Mike Dawson,  and French world championship gold medalist, Nouria Newman.
