The final K1 men’s Olympic nomination trial will headline the final day of racing at the Oceania Championships at Penrith Whitewater Stadium on Sunday.

The battle to earn the right to be nominated to the Australian Olympic Committee for a place in Rio appears to be down to two men, Lucien Delfour and Jaxon Merritt, after they took out the first and second trials.

Delfour and Merritt will line-up in the K1 men’s semi-final from 10 am AEST. Only the top ten will qualify for the final which will follow at 12:10 pm.

Warwick Draper, Tim Anderson, Ben Pope, Daniel Watkins, Angus Thompson and Alistair Anderson are the other Australian K1 men still in the running for the Oceania title.

Sunday will also be an important day for New Zealand’s K1 men with Mike Dawson and Callum Gilbert set to go head to head in their own nomination battle to see who will move a step closer to achieving their Rio dream.

Prior to the men’s K1 semi-final, the women’s C1 event will be contested for the first time at the Oceania Championships.

The heats will commence at 8:34 am AEST with the semi-final and final to follow later in the day.

Australian duo Jessica Fox and Rosalyn Lawrence, and Austrian Viktoria Wolffhardt are the three highest ranked women in action.

Western Australian Georgia Fox and local favourites Alison Borrows and Noemie Fox will be others in the mix for a medal.
