Athletes from 20 countries are expected to compete in the European canoe slalom championships in Prague, starting Friday.

Organisers of the 2020 ECA championships are working tirelessly to prepare the best possible event in the current situation, and to provide a safe environment for all participants of this biggest canoe slalom sporting event of the year.

On Friday there will be heats in all events (women’s kayak and canoe, men’s kayak and canoe). On Saturday semi-finals, finals and team races in women’s canoe and men’s kayak are on the programme, while on Sunday the championships will conclude with women’s kayak and men’s canoe semi-final, final and team races.

Due to the health situation, Germany and Russia this week decided not to come to the championships. Great Britain and Slovakia have already announced they will not participate inany international races this year.

There are still athletes from 20 European countries on the start list. Around 120 athletes will compete on the Vltava River, from Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Spain, Estonia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden and Ukraine.

In order to follow the special safety regulations the venue will be closed to the general public, who always turn out in great numbers and full voice in Prague.

Livestreaming of Friday’s heats will be available on the Canoe Europe Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/CanoeEurope, while Saturday’s and Sunday’s races will be geoblocked due to TV rights restrictions.
