WHEN/WHERE DID YOU START CANOEING/ KAYAKING?
Both my parents Tom and Andie Egan did canoeing. My Mum says that I was in a boat before I was born as she used to paddle with me while she was pregnant. I sat in a boat of my own for the first time when I was 3-years old. I did my first race in England when I was 8 years old. When I was young, I used to go to England often to compete and I became Under 14 K1 National British Champion in both Sprint and Marathon. At the age of 15, I decided that I wanted to concentrate on canoeing so I stopped all the other sports/ activities I was doing at the time. My family are all still very involved in canoeing. My Dad is Team Leader for the Irish Canoe Sprint Team and my brother, Peter Egan, is also an Irish International Kayaker.
