FAMILY TRADITION
Despite having both parents win medals in canoe sprint at the Olympic Games, he says he never felt burdened to emulate his parents achievements in the sport. "It was never like a shadow over me. No one ever tried to make me paddle if I didn't want to do it. I wasn't pressured to live up to the family name. I do it because I have a passion for it and I want to do it for myself. I had always paddled a bit because I was always around the sport growing up, but I really didn't start training until I was 15 or 16." His mother Anna has a long history of also coaching in the sport, but has never coached her son. "She has been super-supportive, but always said she wanted to be my mum and not my coach."
