Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom have been named on the programme for the Pan American Games Lima 2027.
They will be among 36 sports that will feature at the Games following a decision made by the Panam Sports Executive Board.
More than 7,000 athletes from 41 nations are poised to participate at the Games that will run from July 16 to August 1, 2027.
Canoe Sprint made its Pan American Games debut in 1987 and has featured at every edition since then, meaning Lima 2027 will be its 10th successive appearance.
Canoe Slalom will appear for the fourth time in a row having made its debut at the Games in 2015.
Pan American Canoe Federation President Sebastian Gomez said: “We are very happy, of course.
“Once again, canoeing demonstrates its strength and representation on the continental stage.
“Two major disciplines will be competing at the Pan American Games in Canoe Slalom and Canoe Sprint.
“The Pan American Games are a competition of great importance for our athletes – many of them shine in this event, bringing pride to their people and elevating their countries in the international sports arena.
“Expectations are high, as they have been in previous editions.
“Lima, which already hosted the Games in 2019 with excellence, will certainly deliver a top-level event once again.
“We have maintained a constant and productive dialogue with the Peruvian Canoe Federation to ensure another memorable edition, with organisation and infrastructure that live up to the level of the athletes and the audience.”
At Santiago 2023, Brazil and the United States shared the gold medals in Canoe Slalom, winning three each, while Canada topped the standings in Canoe Sprint with four titles, with Argentina, Cuba and Mexico grabbing two each.
