The International Canoe Federation, the Rowing and Canoeing Association of Thailand and the Asian Canoe Confederation has announced the postponement by one month of the 2020 Asian canoe slalom, paracanoe and canoe sprint championships in Thailand.

The competitions, which are also Tokyo Olympic qualifying events, were scheduled  for the end of this month, but will now be moved to April 17 to 30th. Exact dates for each competition will be confirmed soon.

Organisers have responded to ongoing concern over the spread of the coronavirus and travel restrictions which are now being placed on some countries. Officials have also taken advice from international health experts.

The ICF is continuing to monitor the international situation. The federation board is currently sitting in Barcelona and has agreed on contingency plans for the coming months, including for Olympic qualifying events, which will be released once ratified by the International Olympic Committee.

The African canoe slalom qualifier scheduled for Huningue, France, next weekend is still scheduled to go ahead.
