Czechia’s Martin Fuksa bounced back to capture his 10th European title in the men’s canoe single 500m on home waters.
Racice in Czechia delivered four fantastic days of competition at the European Canoe Association Canoe Sprint European Championships, where Hungary’s Zsoka Csikos and Spain’s Angels Moreno completed golden hat-tricks and Portugal’s Fernando Pimenta bagged a brace of titles.
Fuksa’s hopes of adding European gold to his Olympic crown in the men’s C1 1000m were dashed by Romania’s Catalin Chirila.
The Romanian paddler retained the European crown in 3:46.781 as Fuksa was left to settle for silver in 3:46.838 and Moldova’s Serghei Tarnovschi bagged bronze in 3:49.128.
Just a day after that disappointment for Fuksa, the Czech star responded with victory in the men’s C1 500m.
Fuksa thrilled the home fans when he sealed top honours in 1:47.733.
A time of 1:49.280 saw Tarnovschi secure silver, while Chirila registered 1:49.313 for bronze.

Csikos demonstrated her superiority over three distances to come away with a hat-trick of titles.
The Hungarian proved too strong in the women’s kayak single 1000m, sealing the title in 3:50.294.
Sweden’s Melina Andersson was four seconds back in second, while Spain’s Laura Pedruelo posted a time of 3:55.841 for bronze.
Csikos made it a double when she clinched women’s K1 500m gold in 1:47.902.
Poland’s Anna Pulawska came second in 1:48.636 as Serbia’s Milica Novakovic claimed bronze in 1:49.939.
The hat-rick was secured when Csikos crossed first in 23:39.685 for the women’s K1 5000m title.
Italy’s Susanna Cicali posted 23:40.471 for silver and Andersson clocked 23:41.126 for bronze.
Moreno was another paddler to finish with three golds, winning two of those with her canoe double partner Viktoriia Yarchevska.
The pair swept to the women’s C2 500m title in 1:55.543, beating Ukraine’s Liudmyla Luzan and Iryna Fedoriv who finished in 1:56.456 for silver and Hungary’s Agnes Anna Kiss and Bianka Nagy who clocked 1:57.168 for bronze.
Another gold medal was achieved in the women’s C2 200m as Moreno and Yarchevska triumphant in 42.242.
It was the same podium with Luzan and Fedoriv taking silver in 42:309 and Kiss and Nagy picking up bronze in 42.856.
Moreno also teamed up with Adrian Sieiro, Maria Corbera and Daniel Grijalba to deliver gold for Spain in the mixed canoe four 500m.
The Spanish quartet won in 1:36.255 as Hungary came second in 1:36.868 and Moldova secured bronze in 1:38.999.
After starring at the ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships, Pimenta continued his fine form in Racice.
Pimenta won the men’s K1 1000m title in a time of 3:25.096 as he got the better of Sweden’s Martin Nathell by 0.913, while Hungary’s Balint Kopasz clinched bronze in 3:26.019.
The Portuguese star secured his second gold of the week with victory in the men’s K1 5000m after finishing in 21:14.874.
Adam Varga of Hungary posted 21:15.984 for silver, while Denmark’s Mads Brandt Pedersen finished in 21:17.760 for bronze.
Portugal also came out on top in the men’s kayak four 500m as Gustavo Goncalves, Joao Ribeiro, Messias Baptista and Pedro Casinha crossed first in 1:19.319.
Czechia placed second with Poland bagging bronze as reigning world and Olympic champion Germany finished fifth.
Hungary captured the women’s K4 500m crown, with Sara Fojt, Noemi Pupp, Laura Ujfalvi and Emese Kohalmi triumphing in 1:35.277.
Spain clinched silver and Germany claimed bronze.
Poland’s Dorota Borowska emerged victorious from the women’s C1 200m final, triumphing in a time of 45.178.
Luzan sealed silver in 45.658, with bronze going to Yarchevska in 45.781.
Pablo Grana secured gold for Spain in the men’s C1 200m as he sealed top spot in 38.291.
He defeated Poland’s Oleksii Koliadych by just 0.047, while Ukraine’s Andrii Rybachok picked up bronze.
The women’s K1 200m title was won by Hungary’s Anna Lucz after finishing in a time of 39.715.
She beat Slovenia’s Anja Osterman by 0.190 as Serbia’s Milica Novakovic completed the top three in 40.155.
There was further delight for Hungary in the men’s K1 500m as Varga won in 1:37.455.
Spain’s Alex Graneri crossed in 1:38.242 for silver, while bronze went to Czechia’s Josef Dostal in 1:38.322.
Luzan outpaced the rest of the field to win the women’s C1 500m title in 2:06.807.
Hungary’s Reka Opavszky crossed in 2:08.793 for silver, with Corbera claiming bronze in 2:11.004.
Serbia’s Strahinja Dragosavljevic got the edge over Portugal’s Messias Baptista to take the men’s K1 200m title.
After nothing separated the two at the recent International Canoe Federation Canoe Sprint World Cup in Szeged, Dragosavljevic triumphed by 0.036 to win in 34.138.
Baptista had to settle for silver in 34.174 as Spain’s Carlos Arevalo collected bronze after finishing in 34.554.
Germany’s reigning Olympic champions Jacob Schopf and Max Lemke sealed gold in the men’s kayak double 500m.
They triumphed in 1:27.107, as Czechia’s Jakub Spicar and Daniel Havel came second in 1:27.340 and Italy’s Samuele Burgo and Tommaso Freschi secured bronze in 1:27.430.
Italy’s Gabriele Casadei and Carlo Tacchini warmed up for a home World Championships by clinching the European crown.
The Italian duo won the men’s C2 500m title in 1:36.058, edging Spain’s Grijalba and Sieiro by 0.090.
Hungary’s Kristof Kollar and Istvan David Juhasz crossed in 1:36.978 for bronze.
Poland’s Martyna Klatt and Pulawska were victorious in the women’s K2 500m, winning in 1:37.273.
Germany’s Paulina Paszek and Pauline Jagsch sealed silver in 1:37.939, while the bronze went to Hungary’s Kiss and Lucz in 1:38.123.
Zsofia Katalin Csorba sealed women’s C1 5000m top spot in 26:55.664 as Corbera claimed silver in 26:58.526 and Moldova’s Daniela Cociu earned bronze in 27:11.617.
Moldova’s Tarnovschi bagged the men’s C1 5000m crown in 23:29.537.
Poland’s Wiktor Glazunow finished in 23:30.538 for silver, while Tacchini won bronze in 23:38.796.
