Great Britain reinforced its strength in Paracanoe by capturing four European crowns in Racice, Czechia. 

Charlotte Henshaw, Hope Gordon, Laura Sugar and David Phillipson all secured gold to put Great Britain at the top of the standings at the European Canoe Association Paracanoe European Championships. 

There was also delight for Georgia’s Serhii Yemelianov as he continues his stunning comeback, while Ukraine picked up two golds thanks to victories for Vladyslav Yepifanov and Maryna Mazhula, and Germany achieved a brace of titles courtesy of wins for Moritz Berthold and Chinette Karina Lauridsen. 

Portugal’s Norberto Mourao, Italy’s Veronica Biglia and Hungary’s Peter Kiss were the other Paracanoe gold medallists in Racice.

It was a British one-two in the women’s VL3 as Gordon got the better of Henshaw to secure the title. 

A time of 54.221 saw Gordon emerge victorious as Henshaw sealed silver in 55.491 and France’s Elea Charvet bagged bronze in 57.692. 

Henshaw proved too strong in the women’s KL2, powering to victory by almost four seconds. 

Henshaw crossed in 48.218 for the victory as Hungary’s Katalin Varga sealed silver in 52.025 and Germany’s Anja Adler finished in 52.568 for bronze. 

There was more success for Great Britain in the men’s KL2 as Phillipson came out on top.

Phillipson triumphed in 41.516, beating Italy’s Christian Volpi who clocked 42.339 for silver, while Ukraine’s Mykola Syniuk clinched bronze in 42.636. 

Sugar was another gold medal-winner for Great Britain, securing the women’s VL3 crown in 46.014. 

France’s Nelia Barbosa picked up silver after crossing in 47.761, while Spain’s Maria Jimenez finished in 47.788 for bronze. 

There was joy for Germany in the men’s VL1 as Berthold captured the European title in 1:07.792. 

Italy’s Alessio Bedin was next to cross the finish line in 1:10.199 for silver before Taylor Gough of Great Britain sealed bronze in 1:11.016. 

Mourao delivered gold for Portugal in the men’s VL2 as he took the win in a time of 54.235. 

Great Britain’s Edward Clifton collected silver after finishing in 55.062, while Spain’s Higinio Rivero completed the podium in 55.202 for bronze. 

Yemelianov continued his superb return to international action by becoming European champion in the men’s KL3. 

After three and a half years away from the sport, Yemelianov marked his comeback with victory at the International Canoe Federation Paracanoe World Cup in Poznan, Poland before securing the European title in Racice. 

Yemelianov triumphed in 39.965 as Great Britain’s Jonathan Young posted 41.022 for silver and Spain’s reigning world champion Juan Valle secured bronze in 41.249.

Reigning Paralympic champion Yepifanov added another gold to his impressive collection of titles with victory in the men’s VL3. 

Yepifanov took the title in 46.783 as Great Britain’s Stuart Wood claimed silver in 48.696 and Spain’s Adrian Mosquera clinched bronze in 46.014. 

Ukraine’s Mazhula retained the women’s KL1 crown, while Hungary’s double Paralympic champion Kiss swept to victory in the men’s KL1. 

Kiss finished in 44.306 to take top spot as France’s Remy Boulle came second in 48.966 and Hungary’s Robert Suba came third in 48.966. 

There were two German paddlers on the women’s VL1 podium as Lauridsen won gold in 1:09.343 and Lillemor Koeper earned bronze in 1:25.768. 

Sandwiched between the two Germans was Italy’s Viktoryia Shablova who crossed in 1:13.413 for bronze. 

Italy’s gold came courtesy of Biglia who topped the standings after crossing in 1:06.730. 

Spain’s Ines Felipe was second in 1:07.524 and Germany’s Edina Mueller was third in 1:08.837.
