A fantastic field of paddlers are set to line up in Madeira, Portugal for the opening leg of the International Canoe Federation Canoe Ocean Racing World Series.
Reigning world champion Kira Bester of South Africa and Germany’s 2024 world gold medallist Gordan Harbrecht are among the star names that will race on the Portuguese waters.
They will both be looking to get their seasons off to flying starts as they bid for success at the venue of the 2024 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships.
Another leading paddler includes Great Britains Rosemary Edwards, the current U23 women’s world champion and senior world bronze medallist.
Home hopes will rest on the shoulders of Bernardo Pereira, the reigning U23 men’s world champion and senior world bronze medallist.
He is among a strong field of Portuguese paddlers looking to make home advantage count in Madeira.
Competition begins on Friday with the men and women’s surfski single as well as the junior events.
On Saturday racing will conclude with the mixed surfski double along with men’s junior SS2.
