Brazil’s Ana Satila and Australia’s Merle Long delivered standout performances on American waters at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom Ranking Race in Montgomery, United States, each collecting two gold medals.

Satila led the way in the women’s events, securing victory in both women’s kayak and canoe. Long also enjoyed a successful weekend, taking gold in the men’s K1 and later adding another title in kayak cross.

The men’s K1 produced a thrilling finish as Kaelin Friedenson and Long finished with identical times to share the victory. Italy’s Raffaello Ivaldi claimed the top step of the podium in the men’s C1, while USA’s Evy Leibfarth triumphed in the women’s kayak cross.

In the women’s K1, Satila delivered a strong run of 106.85 to take gold ahead of Leibfarth, who finished second in 111.07. Fellow American Ria Sribar completed the podium with a time of 115.87.

The men’s K1 ended in dramatic fashion with Friedenson and Long both stopping the clock in 98.70. USA’s Michal Smolen secured third place with a time of 99.54.

Satila returned to the start line in the women’s C1 to claim her second gold of the day. Her winning time of 114.23 narrowly edged Leibfarth, who finished just behind in 114.80. Italy’s Marta Bertoncelli claimed bronze in 115.58.

Italy’s Raffaello Ivaldi captured gold in the men’s C1, finishing in 103.04. American paddlers, Casey Eichfeld and Zackary Lokken completed the podium finishing second ans third in 106.36 and 109.66 respectively.

Two-time Olympian Leibfarth claimed a golden result in the women’s kayak cross to add to her already impressive tally of two silver medals, and finish ahead of Mexico’s Sofia Reinoso and compatriot Isabella Altman.

American-born Merle Long added his second gold of the weekend in the men’s kayak cross, with USA’s Smolen and Nikhil Nijhaqwan taking silver and bronze, rounding off a successful weekend for the visiting paddlers.
