The world's best Paracanoe athletes will go head-to-head at the 2016 Paracanoe World Championships in Duisburg, Germany from the 17-19 May. Here's a preview for each of the six women's events. 

KL1 200m

Jeanette Chippington (GBR) has won the world title each of the four times this event has been staged at world championship.

Chippington is the most successful participant in the history of the world championships. She has won 10 gold medals; no other woman has won more than four.

Great Britain (G4), Ukraine (S2-B1) and Russia (B2) are the only NPCs that have won multiple medals in this event.

This event has been staged at the world championships in each year since 2012.

Australia is the only non-European NPC to have won a medal in this event at the world championships. In 2012, Kara Kennedy (AUS) claimed a bronze medal.

KL2 200m

Representatives from Great Britain have won the gold medal at the last four world championships. In 2012, Jeanette Chippington (GBR) emerged victorious in 2012 and Emma Wiggs (GBR) won the gold at the past three world championships.

The only other NPC to have won this event is Brazil, through Marta Santos Ferreira (BRA) in both 2010 and 2011.

Canada has won four medals in this event, but has yet to win a first gold (S3-B1). Only Great Britain has won more medals in this event (G4-S1).

KL3 200m

Canada has won four of six world championships gold medals in this event. Christine Gauthier (CAN) won it each of the first four times it was staged in the competition, from 2010 to 2013.

In 2014, Anne Dickens (GBR) became the first world champion from Europe in this event.

In 2015, Amanda Reynolds (AUS) followed up on her 2014 bronze by winning Australia its first gold medal in this event.

France (S1-B2) and Great Britain (G1-S2) have won one fewer medal than the record four by Canada in this event.

Anne Dickens and Cindy Moreau (FRA) have won a medal in this event at each of the last three world championships.

VL1 200m

This event will be staged at the world championships for the fourth time.

The first two world titles in this event were won by Jeanette Chippington (GBR). These are two of her record 10 world titles among participants in world championships.

The reigning world champion in this event is Katarzyna Leskiewicz (POL), who emerged victorious in Milan last year.

This was the first, and thus far only, world title by a Polish woman in para canoe.

VL2 200m

This event will be staged at the world championships for the fourth time.

Susanne Seipel (AUS) is the reigning world champion from the Milan world championships last year. She is one of two Australian women to have won a world title in para canoe.

The first two world titles in this event were won by Great Britain. Jeanette Chippington (GBR) triumphed in 2013 and Emma Wiggs (GBR) succeeded her as world champion in 2014.

The nine medals in this event have been divided among seven different NPCs. Only Great Britain and Brazil have won multiple medals.

VL3 200m

This event has been the domain of Great Britain, United States and Canada. All three NPCs have won four medals in women’s VL2, while no other NPC has collected more than one.

Great Britain has been most successful in this event, winning three of five available gold medals.

Andrea Green (GBR) is the leading individual in this event and the only person to win two gold medals in it. She claimed the world title in 2013 and 2014.

Anja Pierce (USA) is the reigning world champion in this event and the only woman to win a world title for the United States. The US have won eight medals of other denomination at the world championships (G1-S5-B3).
