This final post reflects on the Rio 2016 blog analytics and assesses how our increasingly online World allowed us to build an online presence for canoeing.
The Rio 2016 blog could be found on the ICF Planet Canoe website, under the Rio 2016 dropdown. The blog ran for 22 days with 28 posts during between July 24th and August 14th. Here is an account of what transpired and what can be learnt from the exercise.

Rizza set to take on childhood hero in K1M 200m Final
Italy’s Manfredi Rizza is living the dream after a perfect start to his Olympic career has provided a spot in tomorrow's K1 Men 200m final.
The 25-year-old is a relative newcomer amongst the world’s fastest but confirmed his arrival at the sports top table with victory at the 2016 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg earlier this season.
Today, Rizza eased through the heats and managed a third in a tight semifinal to confirm his place in the top eight.

Dead heats and fast times as canoe sprinters fight for final spots
RIO DE JANEIRO - The wind picked up and so did the pace as the final day of canoe sprint heats got under way at Lagoa Stadium on Friday.
There were several photo finishes, none closer than in the second semifinal of the women's kayak four (K4) 500m when Canada and Great Britain tied for second on identical times, both progressing to Saturday's final.

TARNOVSCHI (MDA) suspended
Olympic Canoe Sprint C1M 1000m bronze medallist, Serghei TARNOVSCHI (MDA) has been suspended with immediate effect following adverse results from a pre-competition test.
The 19-year-old paddler was due to contest the C2M 1000m with brother Oleg, but will now no longer be eligible and will face provisional suspension under rule 7.8 of the ICF Anti Doping Rules.Read more
Wallace sets sights on fourth Olympics after Rio bronze
Evergreen Australian paddler, Ken Wallace, has vowed to push on for a fourth Olympic Games after pairing with Olympic debutant Lachlan Tame to win bronze in the K2 1000 on Thursday morning.
33-year-old Wallace, who won gold and bronze at the Beijing Olympics, and then finished fourth in the K2 1000 in London, said he’s in the form of his life – and while he has a lot more responsibilities at home these days, Tokyo 2020 is in his thoughts.

IOC President Congratulates Canoeing
Thomas Bach congratulated canoeing after witnessing some spectacular canoe sprint action as the second day of medal races concluded at the Lagoa Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Arriving in time to watch the C1 Men 200m race for gold the IOC President was treated to a compelling watch alongside the ICF President and IOC Member José Perurena.
