The month of June will see the Pan American Canoe Federation (COPAC) back an international Dragon Boat conference and a Paracanoe webinar.

Dr. Don McKenzie, a renowned Canadian expert in sports medicine and post-cancer health, will lead the conference titled “Dragon Boat Paddling is Medicine”.

Organised by the network Latinoamerica en Rosa with the support of Pura Vida Dragón Rosa, the virtual event scheduled for June 4 will shed light on the positive impact of sport in recovery after breast cancer treatment.

Dr. McKenzie, who is also a Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia (Canada), founded the Abreast In A Boat team in 1996, a charitable society whose mission is to demonstrate that those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer can live full, active, and healthy lives.

Free to attend, participants will get an email confirmation after registering here

With the aim of developing Paracanoe in the continent, two webinars in English and Spanish are scheduled for June 7.

Fatima Fernandes, International Canoe Federation Medical and Functional Classifier, and Monica Hernandez Carreno, Technical Classifier, coach and international Paracanoe judge will be conducting the Paracanoe Level 1 Training webinars.

The objectives of the webinar include identifying the different classification types in Paracanoe, understanding how the type of boat impacts athlete performance, becoming familiar with technical terms such as “status” and “review”, and recognising the relevant forms and documents used in the classification process.

COPAC will provide certifications to those who complete both. You can register by clicking here.
