Argentina topped the medals table in Asuncion, Paraguay as Canoe Sprint featured at this month's Junior Pan American Games.
Races were held at the Bahia de Asuncion from August 20 to 23 with 101 paddlers from 16 nations participating across 16 medal events.
Argentina enjoyed the most success, capturing seven golds, two silvers and two bronzes.
Aramis Sanchez delivered two golds for Argentina, winning over 500m and 1000m in the men’s canoe single.
Vicente Vergauven and Baltazar Itria also struck twice, emerging victorious from the men’s kayak double 500m final and teaming up with Luca Micatrotta and Agustin Sanchez to win men’s kayak four 500m gold for Argentina.
Argentina also won the women’s K4 500m courtesy of Paulina Barreiro, Martina Catalano, Candela Velazquez and Priscila Vukonich.
This was one of Barreiro’s third golds as she triumphed in the women’s K1 200m final where she got the better of Chile’s Maira Toro and Uruguay’s Emilia Milich who claimed silver and bronze, respectively.
Barreiro also linked up with Agustin Sanchez to claim the mixed K2 500m title.
Chile were second in the medals table with three golds, three silvers and four bronze.
Sebastian Alveal secured two of Chile’s three titles thanks to his victories in the men’s K1 500m and men’s K1 1000m.
Toro grabbed Chile’s other gold medal after powering to the women’s K1 500m title with Barreiro placing second on this occasion and Milich picking up another bronze.
Cuba also enjoyed success, winning three golds, three silvers and three bronzes to rank third in the overall standings.
Yisnoly Lopez sealed the women’s C1 200m crown before joining forces with Diorgina Castillo to become women’s canoe double 500m champions.
Her hat-trick of gold medals was completed when she clinched the mixed canoe double 500m title alongside Javier Requeiro.
Brazil came away with two titles a Mateus Nunes and Lucas Espirito Santo bagged men’s C2 500m gold and Lorrane Santos came out on top in the women’s C1 500m final.
Mexico also picked up a gold medal after Naomi Campos and Ana Hernandez swept to the women’s K2 500m crown.
