The City of Krakow

Krakow is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland. Situated in the southeast region of the country, on the Wisla (Vistula) River, between the Jura uplands and the Tatra Mountains. Krakow was the capital of Poland for 531 years. It is a city of grand history and magnificent architecture. Krakow is an important center for trade, services, culture, higher education and science.

Krakow has about 755,000 permanent residents and the city conurbation totals some 1,5 million people. Is a metropolis with the cosmopolitan atmosphere. According to statistics in 2012 Krakow was visited by 7 million tourists. The main reason for visiting are: its historical monuments, recreation, religion and business; outside the city are: the Wieliczka salt mine, the Tatra Mountains, Czestochowa - the historic city, Auschwitz - Nazi concentration camp and Ojcowski National Park.

Krakowians can be counted on - they are well-educated, competent and welcoming. Today Krakow is the preferred residence of eminent artist and cultural figures. This royal city is unofficial cultural capital of Poland. Furthermore is the most recognized Polish location referred as „the Athens of the North” or „the Slavic Rome”.

The Malopolska Region

Numerous events, inscribed in the permanent calendar of world sporting events as well as occasionally World or European championships, are held every year in our region.

The names of Justyna Kowalczyk, Rafał Majka, Kamil Stoch, Robert Kubica, Rafał Sonik, the sisters, Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska or Mateusz Polaczyk emphatically testify to the region's sports potential. People who prefer to spend time actively rather than sitting on the side cheering, also have many opportunities – the Malopolska Region is the perfect place for those who like active rest.

Taking advantage of the beauties of wild nature, one can travel across hundreds of trails for walking, cycling or horse-riding. The area is also a paradise for mountaineering enthusiasts. For those who enjoy strong emotions and high-adrenaline, one can fly a glider, paraglide, use a paramotor, or parachute.

The Malopolska Region, apart from its natural values, also offers a rich and modern sports infrastructure. The region has long been the national leader in the construction of cycle paths. They were designed so as to make individual routes run through the entire Region connecting the main cities of the region. For two wheel lovers, the routes enable reaching the most interesting tourist and natural sites in the Malopolska Region.

We are happy that we can experience real emotions throughout the Malopolska Region at any time of the year, both cheering and actively practicing in sports. The Malopolska Region wish all players and fans of the World Championships will have fully-experienced emotions.
