The International Canoe Federation has released its sprint canoe calendar for 2018, with two World Cups, a World Championships in Portugal and an U23 and Junior World Championships in Bulgaria.

The ICF has also released details of the events which will be contested at the World Cups and World Championships, which includes paracanoe competition. Among the changes, there will be three additional women's canoe events in Portugal.

Next year’s calendar also features the qualifying event for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. The qualifiers will be contested in Barcelona in April.

The 2018 Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships will be held at Montemor O Velho, Portugal, in August, and will include a full calendar of Olympic and non-Olympic events.

The men’s C4 500 will return to the schedule after an absence of more than 10 years, and women's C1 500, C2 200 and C1 5000 have been included in the program, more than doubling the number of canoe events available to women.

The men’s K4 1000 and K2 200 will remain, despite no longer being Olympic events.

However neither the K4 1000 or C4 500 will be part of the World Cup program, while the women’s K2 1000 will also only be contested at the World Championships.

The two World Cups in 2018 will be held at Szeged, Hungary, and Duisburg in Germany. Both events will be held in May.

Szeged will host the 2019 World Championships.

The ICF has left open the option for World Cup organisers to make minor changes to the program, with the possibility to replace the K1 and C1 5000 races with other test events.

In 2017 relay events were trialled.

The 2018 U23 and Junior World Championships will be held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, at the end of July.

The full schedule and event program for 2018 is as follows;
