Canoe Sprint World Cup
The 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint season will see the world’s best paddlers contesting three events, beginning at the exciting Montemor-o-Velho course in Portugal in May.
This event will have added significance for paddlers and coaches, as it will be the home of the 2018 ICF Sprint Canoe World Championships.
World Cup 2 will be held in what many people argue is the international home of canoe sprint, Szeged in Hungary. Szeged has not hosted an event for more than two years, guaranteeing a big crowd will be on hand to cheer on the paddlers.
Szeged is hosting the 2019 ICF Sprint Canoe World Championships.
The final stop on the 2017 World Cup circuit will be Belgrade, the first major canoe sprint event at this venue since the 2011 European Championships, and again certain to draw a passionate crowd.
Szeged and Belgrade will also host Para Canoe World Cup events, providing spectators with the chance to see many of the athletes who competed at last year’s Rio Paralympics, when Para Canoe made its debut.
There will be several changes to the Olympic Canoe Sprint Program in Tokyo 2020, as the ICF strives for gender equality. This will ensure some interesting changes in many of the races this season.
