Spectator Guide
The "mother of all artificial canoe routes", as the Augsburger Kanustadion on the ice channel is often called, has a capacity of 10,000 spectators, was always a model and a source of ideas for the numerous canoe-slalom routes that have been built all over the world.
In the years 1957, 1985 and 2003, Augsburg was the venue of the Canoe Slalom World Championships. In 1972, the Olympic canoe slalom in Augsburg was first held.
Kanu Schwaben Augsburg proves its versatility as the organizer of high-profile events. In 1995 the world championship took place in the Rodeo. In 1996, the first European Championship was held in the Canoe slalom. In 2011, Kanu Schwaben was a pioneer and presented the first world championship in the wild water print; In 2015, the Kanu Schwaben will enter new territory and are host of the first Eurocup in Wildwater sprint and Boater Cross, where you can experience the top athletes from all over the world.
The ice channel is located in the recreational area, at the Hochablass des Lechs. The whole ice channel as a competition track is 600 meters long, the race track in Augsburg has a length of 308m. The height difference is 4.1 m and the water speed is 3 to 6 m / sec. With a width of 10 to 12m and a depth of 40 to 120 cm the Augsburger ice channel has the difficulty level WW IV.
