ICF Canoe Marathon Committee activities Q2 2026

K1 long distance canoe marathon Bazhong 2026

As we complete the second quarter of 2026, Canoe Marathon continues to demonstrate its strength across every level of our sport. From mass-participation race (Vöhandu Marathon) to an outstanding World Cup (Bazhong), the past three months have highlighted the diversity, passion and international growth of the marathon community.

Võhandu Marathon – The Spirit of Endurance

The quarter began with the Vöhandu Marathon in Estonia, one of the world's most demanding endurance races. More than 2500 paddlers accepted the challenge of more than 100 kilometres through rivers and changing conditions. The event once again showed that marathon canoeing is about much more than elite competition. It brings together experienced athletes, newcomers, families, volunteers and support crews, creating a unique atmosphere that reflects the true spirit of our discipline.

World Cup Bazhong – A New Milestone

May saw the ICF Canoe Marathon World Cup in Bazhong, China, setting new standards for international participation. All continents were invited to travel to China, confirming the growing global appeal of marathon canoeing. Athletes delivered exceptional performances in both the long-distance marathon races and the exciting short-distance events. The organisation, technical officials, volunteers and local authorities worked together to provide an event of the highest quality, with excellent competition management and strong international visibility. The World Cup also demonstrated the value of combining elite competition with opportunities for developing nations (due to a TIP camp) to gain valuable international experience.

The second half of the season

It promises more exciting racing (Sella Descent, European Marathons) as we continue working together to grow marathon canoeing worldwide, strengthen international participation and promote both traditional marathon racing and the dynamic short-distance format. Preparations for the World Championships (19 October–25 October) are in full swing and it promises to be a fantastic event.
